DEALERSHIP ACQUISITIONS AND IT TRANSITIONS

Dealership Acquisition IT Support

Buying a dealership? Plan the technology work before ownership changes.

An ownership change reaches beyond the DMS. Your staff still needs email and application access. Service bays need working devices and wireless. The BDC needs calls to reach the right people.

CTMS helps dealership buyers plan and carry out defined IT work across networks, Microsoft 365, security, and vendor handoffs. That includes working with internal IT and existing providers, so the plan accounts for the systems your departments actually use. Selling a dealership? CTMS can also scope the technology work your side needs.

Ohio-based team. Nationwide remote support. On-site availability is confirmed by location, scope, timing, and technical requirements.

What Dealership Acquisition IT Support Can Include

The engagement defines which changes CTMS performs, which need vendor involvement, and what your team retains.

Microsoft 365, Email, and Access

Review administrative access, user accounts, permissions, and licensing. CTMS supports scoped Microsoft 365 migrations, including tenant-to-tenant moves and email, identity, and file transitions. The source environment, approvals, and project requirements determine the work and timing.

Networks, Devices, and Communications

CTMS can plan and carry out agreed network, wireless, and device work across showrooms, service bays, offices, and other locations. Include coordination with the telecommunications provider for phones and BDC call routing. CTMS coordinates the handoff; the carrier completes the carrier-side work.

Security and Recovery

Account for security tools, monitoring responsibilities, vendor access, and backup coverage as existing arrangements change. CTMS can implement agreed security controls and support backup and recovery for systems in scope. Vendor-hosted application data may have separate arrangements.

DMS and Application Dependencies

CTMS can coordinate the network, devices, identity, and access paths that connect employees to DMS, CRM, F&I, and OEM-connected applications. Application vendors retain responsibility for their platforms. Assign DMS conversion and application-data migration to the provider responsible for that work.

Build the Scope Around the Ownership Change

Buying and selling create different technology responsibilities. Use the scoping discussion to decide which work CTMS will own at each stage, with access and timing agreed before changes begin.

Before Closing

Identify what will stay, move, or be replaced, along with the vendors, licenses, and approvals each change depends on. Separate work needed for the handover from improvements that can follow. Access to the other party’s systems requires authorization.

During the Handover

Carry out the approved changes assigned to CTMS, coordinate vendor-owned changes, and complete the agreed checks. Have the appropriate dealership staff validate affected workflows, such as accessing an application, receiving a call, or printing from a service workstation. Assign any unfinished work and agree on how operations will proceed while it is resolved.

After the Change

Address remaining issues and update documentation for the systems covered by your engagement. If CTMS will provide ongoing dealership IT support, agree on technology standards, responsibilities, and costs, including what internal IT continues to own.

At every stage, dealership leadership retains business approvals. Your legal, financial, and other professional advisors retain their transaction responsibilities. CTMS’s role is the authorized technology work in its engagement.

Questions Before You Start

When should we involve CTMS?

Start the discussion while there is time to review the environment and coordinate dependencies before closing. If dates are already committed to vendors, include them in your inquiry.

Can CTMS work with our internal IT team?

Yes. CTMS can take on defined project or co-managed IT responsibilities alongside internal IT. Agree on who handles technical execution, coordination, and business approval so adding capacity does not leave decisions unassigned.

Put the Technology Work on the Table Before Closing

Use the contact form and select Automotive Dealership IT as the topic. Tell us whether you are buying or selling, where the dealerships are, your approximate timing, and your main technology concern. CTMS can then discuss scope and availability for the work you need.

A brief overview is enough to start. Leave out credentials, customer records, and transaction documents.
